Edinson Cavani in France to complete record-breaking transfer to Paris Saint-Germain

Paris St-Germain have announced the signing of Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani from Napoli for a reported £60m.The 26-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the French champions, who are backed by Qatar Sports Investments. Cavani scored 78 league goals in three seasons with Napoli and finished top scorer in Serie A last season."The transfer of Edinson Cavani is further proof of the club's ability to attract the best players in the world," said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.Late morning, outgoing PSG sporting director Leonardo was seen leaving the luxury hotel with an advisor of the Uruguay player, who is nicknamed "The Matador".Cavani will have to pass a medical before putting pen to paper, with a five-year deal expected, according to PSG sources.

The current French Ligue 1 transfer record was set earlier this year, when Colombia forward Radamel Falcao signed for Monaco from Atletico Madrid for a figure estimated at nearly £52m.

It is the fifth most expensive transfer in history, behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s move from Manchester United to Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane’s switch from Juventus to Real Madrid, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s move from Inter Milan to Barcelona and Kaka’s transfer from AC Milan to Real Madrid.

Cavani, who will wear the No. 9 shirt, was the top scorer in the Italian league last season with 29 goals. He led Napoli to the Italian Cup title in 2012 and to a runner-up finish in Serie A this year.By making its first signing, PSG restored a bit of order at the club following Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti’s departure for Real Madrid and Brazilian sporting director Leonardo’s resignation last week.Cavani’s arrival takes some pressure off Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shoulders. Ibrahimovic was instrumental in PSG winning its first league title since 1994 last season. The Sweden striker led the French league with 30 goals in the 2012-13 season, while forwards Jeremy Menez, Kevin Gameiro and Ezequiel Lavezzi struggled to find the net. Cavani’s signing also alleviates the uncertainty that surrounded PSG when Ancelotti and Leonardo decided to leave.Leonardo has been suspended until June 30, 2014 for shoving a referee after a French league match against Valenciennes in May. PSG president Nasser El-Khelaifi confirmed that Tuesday was the Brazilian’s final day at the club.Ancelotti joined Real Madrid last month. He has been replaced by former France coach Laurent Blanc, who led Bordeaux to the French league title in 2009 but does not have Ancelotti’s experience on the European stage.
"The player was seduced by the club's sporting project and is delighted to be joining an ambitious side, impatient to take on new challenges."We are especially happy to present such a hugely coveted player of immense talent to our supporters..Cavani, who was a target for Manchester City and also linked with Chelsea and Real Madrid, says he joined Laurent Blanc's side to challenge for major honours.

USAIN BOLT TO PLAY FOR MANCHESTER UNITED..!!

OLYMPIC SPRINT LEGEND USAIN BOLT'S DREAM OF PLAYING FOR MANCHESTER UNITED TO COME TRUE-AT PAL RIO FERDINAND'S TESTIMONIAL NEXT MONTH.

The fastest man on the planet will play for Manchester United in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial match against Sevilla on August 9, according to a report in today’s Sunday Sun.The world’s fastest man will pull on a Red Devil’s shirt for the match against Sevilla at Old Trafford. Bolt has mentioned on countless occasions how he would like to play for Manchester United when his sprint career is over and befitting a man who has demolished 100 metre records, the Jamaican seems to believe he is up to the task.It will be fascinating to see if Usain’s speed will be matched by his passing and ball control.”Rio Ferdinand has apparently convinced new Manchester United boss David Moyes to play Bolt and it should be a cracking watch at Old Trafford – as well as help sell tickets!
Jamaican Bolt, 26, previously begged ex-United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to give him a chance to try out for the team. He said: “I know I could make a difference. I’d be the fastest in the team — but I can play as well.”And defender Rio convinced Fergie to let the 100metre and 200metre Olympic champ have a run out in United’s friendly against Real Madrid this summer. The plan appeared to have been scuppered after Fergie retired at the end of last season to be replaced by Everton’s David Moyes but Rio has persuaded the new boss to let Bolt play in his testimonial, which comes after more than a decade at Old Trafford.
Bolt’s selection for the August 9th friendly is expected to be announced by the club next week.

WILL ROONEY STAY OR MAKE A MOVE AWAY FROM MANU???

WAYNE ROONEY:THE MYSTERY MAN OF THIS TRANSFER WINDOW..!!

Former Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan says forward Wayne Rooney may want a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford. Rooney, 27, reportedly asked to leave the club at the end of last season, the second such request in three years. Rooney, who also asked to leave United in October 2010, was linked with a move to Paris St-Germain in April while more recently there has reportedly been interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. The England striker is set to meet with new United manager David Moyes this week to discuss his future.Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is excited by the possibility of Rooney joining the Gunners.
"If it happens, it would be amazing," the 21-year-old said. He's the type of player who can win you trophies. "Just to see his name on the team sheet brings fear to the opposition. We could do with a little more of that."adds Wilshere.
Rooney still has plenty to offer the club. He might have hit a blip in certain performances, but he isn't the first or last player to have done that.
Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded Rooney to stay at the club in 2010, handing the forward a new five-year contract. Phelan revealed that Ferguson was desperate to keep hold of the former Everton player at the time. "Every player is entitled to express a desire to want to move on," said Phelan. "Any player can do that at any time. "In Wayne's case, in the first instance in 2010, he took a lot of advice and got steered towards making that call, but the manager was terrific. He talked to him and asked why would he want to leave the club. Therefore the meeting between Moyes and Rooney this week will be important for both Manchester United and Wayne Rooney.
